“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr Azym Dossa, founding director and former Managing Director of Easy Coach,” the company said.
Dossa played a pivotal role in setting up the company’s operational systems and service standards, building its strong reputation for reliability and customer-focused transport solutions.
“His vision, leadership, and commitment shaped Easy Coach from its inception and created a legacy that will forever remain part of our identity,” the statement added.
The company conveyed its condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, praying for strength and comfort during the mourning period.
Industry stakeholders and business leaders also paid tribute to Dossa, acknowledging his impact on Kenya’s public transport sector and his efforts in modernising intercity travel services. Many described his death as the close of a remarkable chapter, remembering him as a trailblazer in passenger transport.
Dossa stepped down from active management after serving at the helm of the company for 20 years. He cited health concerns and advanced age as the reasons for his retirement from the company’s headquarters at Railways go-down along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi.
In a memo to staff at the time, he said the decision had not been easy but was necessary due to health challenges. While leaving the executive role, he noted he would remain connected to the company and continue offering guidance and support.
Before founding Easy Coach, Dossa had served as Chief Financial Officer at the now-defunct Akamba Bus.

He launched the company with just seven buses operating a single Nairobi–Kisumu route, offering both day and night services, and maintaining a standby bus to ensure smooth operations and timely maintenance.
Today, Easy Coach has grown significantly, operating more than 35 destinations and standing among the largest bus companies in Kenya.

One of the toughest periods during his tenure was the Covid-19 pandemic, which severely affected operations across the transport sector.
In a past interview, Dossa revealed that profits dropped sharply and reserves were heavily depleted during the crisis. However, he emphasised that the company made strategic decisions to safeguard its survival while protecting employees’ welfare.
