As the trend of making money on TikTok gains momentum in the country, an increasing number of creators are flocking to the platform, drawn by its lucrative LIVE sessions which, if executed skillfully, have the potential to bring instant wealth.
TikTok’s unparalleled financial appeal was demonstrated vividly following the passing of renowned creator Brian Chira – within a few hours, fans had collectively donated over Ksh. 10 million on the platform for his funeral expenses.
Seemingly capitalizing on this unprecedented fundraising phenomenon, controversial televangelist Pastor Victor Kanyari has also jumped on the TikTok bandwagon, evidently with a keen eye on profit.
On Friday evening, Kanyari, known for his controversial money-making tactics, went live on TikTok, urging followers to send him ‘gifts’ in exchange for divine blessings.
For over an hour, Kanyari remained live, urging viewers to continue sending him TikTok ‘gifts’, using scriptures to encourage generosity.
At one point, he remarked, “I win when I pray for these people, when I tell God, anyone who sends their gift while I am LIVE, be greatly blessed…”
As more viewers tapped their screens (equivalent to monetary contributions), Kanyari maintained momentum, urging followers to dig deeper into their pockets to ‘receive their blessings’.
“Take whatever you have, the gift you possess, send it now and I will clap my hands and say you are blessed…” Kanyari reiterated.
A persuasive speaker, Kanyari reminded viewers of his past services to them, suggesting that by sending him TikTok gifts, they were acknowledging his years of ministry.
“If I have been a blessing to you, then you too can be a blessing in this ministry,” he encouraged.
“It’s not that I am in need of money or those gifts given on TikTok, but the Bible says the hand that gives is the hand that receives…”
Although The Lower Eastern Times could not ascertain the amount raised during Kanyari’s live session, it’s likely he received a substantial sum judging by the activity of gifts on the screen.
In TikTok terminology, gifts represent a donation system enabling users to send money to their favorite creators, which can later be converted into TikTok coins.
Different virtual gifts carry varying coin values, meaning more expensive gifts translate to larger donations for creators.
