Dutch TUI Airlines Gets Charter Approval for Mombasa Route

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) granted the one-year air service licence, which came into effect last month.

A notice in the Kenya Gazette shows the airline has been authorised to run two weekly flights using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner stationed in Amsterdam. However, the approval does not include traffic rights between Zanzibar and Mombasa.

The decision marks a turnaround from mid-2025, when KCAA had rejected TUI’s request to operate two weekly flights on the same route with a Boeing 787 based at Schiphol Airport.

Both Mombasa and Zanzibar remain top leisure destinations, especially among European tourists drawn by their beaches, cultural heritage and coastal experiences, making the route attractive for the holiday travel market.
