The scheduled post-mortem examination set to occur on Tuesday at Nairobi’s City Mortuary, involving a human head suspected to belong to the late Rita Waeni, was halted.
The head was found at Kiambaa Dam in Kiambu County on Sunday, and the Kasarani DCIO had been handling the case since Waeni’s mutilated body was discovered in a residential apartment’s garbage bin in Roysambu, Nairobi, on January 14.
However, on Tuesday, the post-mortem was postponed as the Homicide Team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) assumed control of the investigation to conduct a forensic analysis of the recovered head.
Two Nigerian nationals, arrested in connection with Waeni’s murder, were brought before the court on Monday after being apprehended in a rented flat in Ndenderu, Kiambu County. During their arrest, Kasarani DCI officers seized a hatchet and a butcher’s knife, six mobile phones, various SIM cards, three laptop computers, and a Kenyan identity card.
Authorities stated that investigations indicated the two individuals had been residing in Kenya illegally.
The family of the 20-year-old Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student has disclosed that at 5 am on the Sunday when Waeni’s body parts were discovered, her father received a message from her phone number, demanding a Ksh. 500,000 ransom within 24 hours for her release.
