The victim, Anthony Gathitu Kabathi, an advocate of the High Court employed at Kabuthi and Company Advocates in Nairobi, was attacked by suspected bandits while returning to Nairobi from a client meeting in Wajir along the Isiolo-Modogashe Road. He was ambushed near Laga Logo, approximately five kilometers from a police camp, and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after being shot by the assailants. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Kabathi passed away on Sunday night.

Expressing grief over the incident, a family member described Kabathi as diligent and hardworking. LSK President Eric Theuri condemned the attack, stating that Kabathi had been shot multiple times during his journey from Wajir to Isiolo for a client meeting. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the matter and urged law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits. Theuri pledged LSK’s full cooperation with the authorities to ensure justice is served.

The area where the attack occurred is known for frequent banditry. General Service Unit (GSU) officers responding to a distress call found Kabathi severely injured in his vehicle, which had been forced off the road by the assailants. The attackers also robbed him before fleeing the scene.

Kabathi was given first aid and transported to Isiolo Galaxy Hospital before being transferred to St. Theresa Mission Hospital Kiirua in Meru for surgery. Detectives are investigating whether the attack was premeditated and targeted Kabathi specifically.

Authorities have warned motorists about the insecurity along the route and advised caution. Bandits in the area typically steal livestock and transport them to the North Rift region for sale. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has initiated operations to address the issue, pledging additional resources to enhance security and stability in the region.
