James Wambugu, vicar-in-charge of ACK St Mark’s Gitugi Church in Mathioya Constituency, reported a bizarre break-in on Saturday morning after receiving calls that the church doors had been tampered with.
“When we rushed to the church, we discovered that several monitors had been stolen,” Wambugu said, describing the incident as unprecedented.
The church leadership was stunned after reviewing CCTV footage, which revealed that the intruder had entered the church completely naked.

The videos showed the man moving across the church, opening cabinets—likely searching for money—before uninstalling the monitors from the walls.
“We have shared the CCTV footage with police, who have assured us that investigations are underway,” Wambugu said, adding that the motive for committing the crime naked remains unclear.
He urged locals to report any electronics being sold without a verified source, as they could have been stolen from the church.
“We will continue to pray for the suspect while authorities pursue his arrest,” he added. “We strongly condemn vandalism in sacred spaces. Churches must be respected.”
The church had recently hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other opposition leaders during a service last Sunday.

Churchgoer Agnes Ndoro described the scene as disturbing, noting that the suspect accessed the church through a pulpit window and moved across the altar completely unclothed. She added that the theft would disrupt church operations, as the monitors are crucial for ensuring all members can follow services.
“The man entered through a window near the pulpit. We are praying for him, hoping God will touch him and lead him to return the stolen items,” she said.
