Chaos Erupts as Narok MCAs Exchange Blows Over Impeachment Motion

Pandemonium broke out at the Narok County Assembly on Tuesday afternoon after rival MCAs exchanged punches during a tense session convened to debate an impeachment motion against Finance County Executive Committee Member (CECM) David Ole Muntet.

Trouble started shortly after the sitting began when sharp divisions emerged among members over the proposed ouster motion.

A section of MCAs who had initially supported the impeachment were accused of changing their position at the last minute, angering colleagues who were determined to push through the removal of the finance executive.

The situation worsened when Speaker Davis Ole Dikir stood to announce proposed leadership changes and proceeded to read the motion ahead of voting.

The assembly chamber soon descended into disorder, with MCAs engaging in physical confrontations that forced security officers to escort the Speaker out of the chamber as the sitting was suspended abruptly.

Addressing the media after the incident, Speaker Ole Dikir linked the chaos to disagreements over leadership changes within the assembly.

“Today we received proposals from members of both coalition sides regarding leadership changes, and while I was communicating the same, a fracas erupted among members. I would not want to comment further because the members themselves will address the issues they raised,” he said.

“This can only be resolved through discussions among party members outside the assembly because my duty is to communicate matters presented by the majority members,” he added.

The wrangling factions are said to include members from both the majority and minority sides, with claims that some MCAs had abandoned an earlier agreement to support the urgent motion aimed at removing Muntet from office.

The Finance CECM faces accusations of mismanaging county funds, arrogance, and allegedly stalling crucial development projects without explanation.

MCAs supporting the impeachment are now demanding intervention from the Office of the Auditor General to investigate the county’s spending, insisting that anyone found responsible should be prosecuted.

Despite the chaos that disrupted proceedings, supporters of the ouster motion maintained that they would continue pushing for Muntet’s removal until the matter is concluded.
