The number of injured victims has also increased to over 30, with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) airlifting more survivors for medical attention in various hospitals.
Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport) and Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) visited the region, assuring residents of full government support as recovery efforts continue.
Initially, the government had confirmed 22 deaths following the mudslide that struck Marakwet East Constituency on the morning of Saturday, November 1, 2025, after heavy rains triggered flash floods and landslides.
In a joint press briefing on Sunday, Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura said the number of missing persons remains at 29, as rescue teams continue to search through the debris.
“It is with deep sorrow that we address you today. The short rains have caused devastating floods, and the government stands with the affected families during this difficult period,” Mwaura said.
According to him, 21 survivors—among them 14 adults and seven children—are receiving treatment at MTRH, while others are being treated in nearby hospitals. Two more patients were later airlifted to Eldoret, raising the total number of injured victims to more than 30.

The ongoing rescue mission involves multi-agency teams drawn from various departments, including the Ministries of Interior, Public Service, and Special Programmes, the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, National Youth Service, Kenya Red Cross, National Disaster Operations Centre, and medical personnel from MTRH.
