Family spokesperson Eric Nyongesa Wafula addressed the media outside Lee Funeral Home, explaining that the family will meet on Friday evening to discuss important matters, including whether to conduct a postmortem.
He mentioned that the family has not yet spoken to the doctors and plans to do so in due course. Wafula shared that Chebukati had been unwell and passed away shortly after 11:00 pm.
“We lost the former IEBC chairman last night. He passed away in the hospital. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time. We will provide a formal update after the family meeting tomorrow. He was unwell and passed away past 11 pm,” Wafula said.
The family has not yet decided whether to perform a postmortem to determine the cause of death, he added.
