Those arrested include a licensed firearm holder and a security guard working at a shopping mall.

The situation unfolded around 8 p.m. when a dispute broke out along 12th Street—a typically crowded area—leading the licensed gun holder to fire three shots into the air in an attempt to disperse an angry mob.

According to police, the altercation began when the security guard accused the businessman of obstructing the mall’s entrance with his vehicle, sparking a heated exchange. The confrontation drew the attention of a crowd, which escalated the situation.

Amid the chaos, the businessman retrieved his pistol as the mob taunted him, questioning whether the gun was real. He fired into the air, inadvertently shattering a window in a nearby building and causing the crowd to scatter.

In retaliation, the mob hurled stones and other objects, severely damaging the businessman’s Toyota Land Cruiser V8. During the scuffle, the magazine of his pistol was lost.

Police responded quickly, rescuing the gun holder and escorting him to the station. The security guard was also detained as investigations continue.

Nairobi Police Commander George Sedah confirmed that inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Separately, police in Busia arrested two suspects linked to a spate of violent robberies. The pair were captured in Malaba township, where officers recovered a loaded Tokarev pistol from one of their homes. Authorities are working to determine if the firearm was used in any previous crimes, as the region continues to grapple with rising insecurity.
