A 26-year-old man was arrested in Busia County for possessing a two-metre-long snake without a valid permit.

Fanish Ramsey Maloba was apprehended at Malenya in Matayos sub-county on Monday. The incident was reported to the Mayenje Police Post as a case of unlawful possession of wildlife.
According to a police report, officers at the Malenya checkpoint stopped Maloba, who was carrying a black bag containing a live snake with black and brown markings.
The suspect, a local resident, claimed he had crossed into Uganda to perform prayers and exorcisms when the snake mysteriously appeared. He said he captured it and was bringing it back to his Apostle Ministries Church in Matayos for further spiritual intervention.

Officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Busia documented the scene and took custody of the snake for safekeeping.
Maloba remains in custody as investigations continue. Authorities say he will be charged once the probe is complete.
