Azimio Maintains Silence on 2027 Presidential Flagbearer

Azimio la Umoja coalition party, as stated by Opiyo Wandayi, the National Assembly Minority Leader, intends to withhold information regarding their 2027 presidential flagbearer.

Wandayi emphasizes that the coalition recognizes the dynamic nature of the political landscape, expecting significant changes before the next election cycle. Consequently, they believe it would be premature to announce their candidate at this juncture.

Wandayi makes it clear that once the opposition decides on a suitable candidate at the right time, the chosen individual will receive unwavering support from the coalition. In an interview with the Daily Nation, he asserts that the decision could favor Azimio or another candidate. Wandayi acknowledges the considerable time remaining until 2027 and anticipates shifts and realignments in the political scenario.

Amid speculations about Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka from Azimio being potential candidates, Wandayi stresses that the candidacy opportunity is open to anyone within the coalition. He encourages a broader focus beyond the prominent figures of Odinga and Musyoka, emphasizing that both individuals possess the qualifications for the presidency.

While Kalonzo Musyoka has declared his intention to compete fiercely against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, Raila Odinga has not disclosed his candidacy plans. However, Odinga expresses confidence in Kalonzo’s ability to defeat Ruto if they were to face off in the electoral contest.
