According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrests were made on June 1, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Kibera Police Station.

“The suspects have been involved in criminal activities, terrorising residents within Kibera and surrounding areas,” said the DCI.

The suspects were captured in the Line Saba area during a coordinated raid. A search of the hideout led to the recovery of a homemade firearm, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, six mobile phones, two laptops, and a camera lens.

They are currently in custody and are being processed for court arraignment. The seized items are being held as evidence in the ongoing investigation.

The arrests follow a similar operation carried out on May 24, where six other suspects were apprehended in Nairobi. Police recovered mobile phones valued at Sh3 million and Sh614,000 in suspected crime proceeds.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Sedah said the suspects had stolen phones from various locations across the city. He warned that many of the stolen gadgets are altered and resold locally or smuggled into neighboring countries.

“These criminals often use motorcycles to operate and evade capture,” Sedah noted.

He urged the public to report thefts and avoid purchasing second-hand devices from unverified sources, as some of the items are linked to violent crimes, including robbery and murder.

Police say the operation to crack down on such criminal networks is still ongoing.
