The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will begin the registration process for the 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) on Monday.
Registration will remain open until February 28, 2025.
KNEC CEO, David Njengere, announced that Grade 6 learners will need to register through the KPSEA registration portal, which will be available starting Monday.
He emphasized that the KNEC portal will close on February 28, 2025, and no late registrations will be accepted after the deadline. He urged all stakeholders, including parents and candidates, to be aware of and follow the deadlines.
Njengere also cautioned that registering non-existent candidates is considered malpractice and can result in severe penalties, such as the de-registration of schools as KNEC assessment centers.
It was stressed that only legitimate learners should be entered for the assessments.
Strict Deadline and Accuracy in Data
Authorities have urged schools to ensure the accuracy of learners’ personal details, including name spelling, gender, date of birth, and citizenship, as per their birth certificates.
Heads of institutions were advised to complete the mandatory online transfer of candidates before the deadline, as KNEC will not allow transfers after the registration portal closes.
The transfer process must be done online to prevent duplication of candidates.
Learners must have an Assessment Number to register for KPSEA, and this will be required for registration. Once the number is assigned in the Grade 6 portal, school heads will be able to register their candidates.
The Ministry of Education will cover the assessment fees for learners in public and private schools, but non-citizen learners will be required to pay Sh750, according to KNEC.
For learners with special needs, the necessary accommodations, such as Braille for visually impaired candidates or large print papers for low vision candidates, must be specified in the registration data.
Additionally, heads of institutions are required to confirm the upload of School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores for Grades 4 and 5 candidates registered for KPSEA.
