Five family members, including a woman and her four sons, have died in a road accident in the Mbaruk area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
The crash occurred at 7 a.m. when a Mercedes, driven by Christopher Ambani, collided head-on with a lorry. The lorry was en route to Nairobi, while Ambani was traveling towards Nakuru.
Gigil area OCPD Jamlek Ngaruiya reported that the collision happened because the Mercedes was overtaking in the wrong lane. The woman and her children were killed instantly, while Ambani was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.
“The bodies have been moved to a morgue in Nakuru,” the OCPD stated.
Lorry driver Morris Wahome described the personal car as speeding and said he had attempted to avoid the collision. “I was overtaking and then tried to steer clear, but he came right into my path,” Wahome said. “I’m very sorry.”
He noted that he was heading to Nairobi while the Mercedes was going in the opposite direction.
