Senator Miraj Abdillahi of UDA has urged President William Ruto to dismiss his Cabinet and initiate a fresh start.
She emphasized that the current Cabinet has failed the President, as evidenced by recent protests from Generation Z against the government.
Speaking in Likoni, Mombasa, Senator Abdillahi expressed concern that the Finance Bill 2024, which could have benefited Coastal communities, was misunderstood and subsequently rejected.
She praised MPs like Ruweida Obbo for supporting the bill due to its potential long-term benefits.
Abdillahi stressed the importance of dialogue and condemned the use of excessive force by rogue troops against Generation Z protesters, calling for accountability for those involved.
She criticized the blame placed solely on the President for mistakes made by others, including governors, and highlighted unfulfilled promises by many leaders.
Abdillahi emphasized the need for genuine accountability and responsibility among leaders to effectively manage Kenya’s resources and address issues like grand corruption and youth unemployment.
Furthermore, she pointed out longstanding issues such as unresolved land problems and inefficiencies in institutions like the EACC, which she claimed have contributed to public frustration and protests.
Abdillahi concluded by lamenting the inadequate opportunities provided to Coastal youth, particularly in sectors like maritime education, and criticized policies that hindered tourism, such as limited airline access to international destinations from Mombasa.
In summary, Senator Abdillahi’s remarks underscored the need for systemic reforms and genuine leadership to address Kenya’s challenges comprehensively.
