Motorists are expressing discontent with the poor condition of the Mlolongo-Katani road in Machakos County.
They highlight the frustration caused by its current state, urging swift government action for repair. Joseph Kamau, a local resident, described the road as a disaster and a daily nightmare for users. Despite being under the jurisdiction of the national government, the road suffers from flooding and deep potholes exacerbated by heavy rains.

Trucks ferrying construction materials have further deteriorated the road, leading to mechanical issues for vehicles and significant challenges for smaller ones. Originally tarmacked less than five years ago, the road’s rapid decline has raised concerns about the quality of the initial work by the contractor, appointed by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURRA).

The deteriorating road not only poses dangers to motorists but also increases expenses for vehicle maintenance and fuel. Boda boda operators, too, are affected, with fares doubling due to the road’s condition, leading to financial strain for commuters.
