Nakuru High School to Host Annual Special Needs Schools Sports Event

Nakuru High School is gearing up to host this year’s national sports event for primary and secondary special needs schools, scheduled to take place from Sunday, April 7th to 11th.

The event will kick off with a vibrant procession through the streets of Nakuru town on Sunday morning, setting the stage for a week of thrilling sports competitions and the eventual recognition and accolades for outstanding participants.

Mr. Nelson Sifuna, the Director for Field Coordination and Co-curricular Activities, has urged sports enthusiasts and the public at large to turn out in large numbers to witness the remarkable display of sporting talent by special needs learners.

The sports lineup includes a variety of disciplines such as rugby under 15s, athletics, basketball, hockey, handball, cross country, and swimming.

Participants will encompass learners with diverse impairments, including physical and mental challenges, visual and hearing impairments, as well as those living with autism.

According to Mr. Nelson Sifuna, the popularity and recognition of special sports have witnessed significant growth over the years, capturing the attention and admiration of the wider public.

“This year’s First Term National Special Schools Sports Competition will commence at Nakuru High School on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with a clinic for referees offering a refresher course on the rules and regulations governing sports in Kenya,” Mr. Sifuna remarked.

Simultaneously, the special schools sports event will coincide with regular sports activities taking place in various regions across the country. Primary school sports will be hosted in Nyeri County, secondary sports in Machakos County, while Embu will be the venue for Drama and Film Festivals during the same period.
