Mara Sugar started the match brightly, pressing aggressively and attempting to disrupt Gor Mahia’s rhythm early on. Gor gradually settled, controlling possession and building attacks through midfield.

The first clear chance came when Gor Mahia’s Shariff Musa tested the Mara Sugar goalkeeper with a low strike from distance, but the effort was comfortably saved.

As the game progressed, Gor Mahia struggled to break through a well-organised Mara Sugar defence, often forced into wide play and speculative passes that were easily dealt with.

One of the best chances of the half fell to Patrick Essombe, who was played through on goal after a defensive error but failed to convert, sending his effort wide and missing a golden opportunity.

The match became more physical and tightly contested, with both sides battling for control in midfield. Gor Mahia dominated possession, but Mara Sugar remained compact and disciplined, limiting clear scoring chances.

The second half saw Gor Mahia increase their attacking urgency, pushing higher up the pitch and making tactical substitutions to inject fresh energy into their forward line.

Despite the pressure, Mara Sugar held firm with strong defensive organisation, making key interceptions and clearances to frustrate the champions.

As the game neared its conclusion, Gor continued pushing for a winner, but rushed decisions in the final third and tight defensive marking prevented any breakthrough.

The final whistle confirmed a goalless draw, reflecting Gor Mahia’s missed opportunities and Mara Sugar’s resilience throughout the match.

Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor admitted his side failed to make their dominance count, pointing to missed chances as the decisive factor.

He said his team controlled large portions of the game but lacked sharpness in front of goal, highlighting the missed Essombe opportunity as crucial.

Mara Sugar coach Francis Xavier praised his players for their discipline and commitment, noting that keeping a clean sheet against the champions was a major achievement.

He credited the team’s defensive organisation and mental strength, especially under sustained second-half pressure.

The result sees Gor Mahia remain top of the table with 69 points ahead of their title celebrations, while Mara Sugar move to 44 points, strengthening their mid-table standing and securing top-flight stability.
