Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has called upon the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to enhance the infrastructure in the county to reduce the frequency of accidents, particularly those resulting from the deteriorated condition of roads constructed in the 1970s.
Addressing the issue at Mundika following a recent accident that claimed two lives, Otuoma emphasized the necessity of road upgrades, especially given the significant volume of trucks traversing Busia and Malaba One-Stop-Border-Points, which serve as vital gateways to East and Central Africa.
Expressing condolences to the affected families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, Otuoma urged KeNHA to prioritize the enhancement of Busia-Kisumu and Malaba-Eldoret Highways due to their heavy traffic load.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns on road safety, particularly during incidents involving fuel tankers, to ensure that residents do not endanger themselves but rather allow specialized groups and law enforcement to manage the situation effectively.
