Residents of Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County are voting today, Thursday, July 16, 2026, in a by-election to elect a new Member of the National Assembly.
Polling stations opened at 6.00 am and are scheduled to close at 5.00 pm. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said voters who are in line by the official closing time will still be allowed to vote, adding that any time lost during the polling process will be compensated after the scheduled closing hour.

The by-election follows the death of Jubilee Party MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, leaving the parliamentary seat vacant.
The contest has drawn significant political interest, with many viewing it as an important indicator of political support in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
As voting commenced, the IEBC reminded voters that ballot secrecy is protected by the Constitution and must be upheld throughout the election.
The commission warned that taking photographs or recording marked ballot papers is illegal, saying such actions compromise the integrity of the electoral process and may expose voters to intimidation, coercion and vote-buying.

IEBC urged all voters to follow electoral laws and help maintain a free, fair and credible election.
Vote counting is expected to begin immediately after polling closes and once everyone who is in the queue by 5.00 pm has cast their ballot.
