World Cup: Ivory Coast Bye, Africa Remains with Seven Teams

Ivory Coast became the second African team to be eliminated from the World Cup round of 32 after losing 2-1 to Norway, leaving seven teams from the continent still in the hunt for a place in the last 16.

Ivory Coast’s elimination joins them with South Africa, which exited the competition early, while Tunisia were eliminated in the group stage.

In other matches played tonight, France advanced to the last 16 after beating Sweden 3-0, while Mexico also qualified by defeating Ecuador 2-0 this morning.

Now Africa’s hopes lie with the seven teams remaining in the tournament.

Tonight at 1:00 PM, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will face England, while at 1:00 PM Senegal will face Belgium for a place in the last 16.

Friday’s schedule sees Algeria playing against Switzerland, while Egypt will face Australia.
