Mystery as Decomposing Body of Man Found in Nyali Home

Police in Nyali Subcounty, Mombasa, are investigating the death of a 49-year-old man whose decomposing body was discovered inside his home in the Mgongeni area of Kisimani–Frere Town.

The discovery was reported on Thursday by a local village elder from Mgongeni. Officers from Mbungoni Police Post responded to the scene, where they found the body of Felix Omondi inside his single-room servant’s quarters.

Preliminary findings suggest Omondi may have died three to four days earlier, as the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

Reports indicate that he had been living alone following a separation from his wife, who is believed to have moved to Malindi. Neighbours said he was last seen alive on Sunday, May 17.

Police processed and documented the scene as investigations into the cause of death continue.

In a separate case in Malindi Subcounty, Kilifi County, authorities are probing a suspected murder after the decomposed body of a 48-year-old man was found in his home in the Gede Rainbow area. A resident alerted police after noticing a foul smell coming from the house of his uncle.

Officers discovered the body of James Kasiwa Muhambi lying on a bed, with signs including blood coming from the ears, a swollen face and neck, and a protruding tongue. Investigators say he was last seen alive about three days earlier. The body was moved to Malindi Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Ruiru, Kiambu County, police are investigating the sudden death of a man who collapsed at a grocery kiosk along the Ruiru bypass. The deceased, identified as Peterson Kinyanjui, had been trying to sell bananas when he suddenly fell unconscious and died at the scene. His body was taken to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

In Gatanga Subcounty, Murang’a County, police are also investigating the death of a 38-year-old man found in his house in Gathanji village. The body of Samuel Mwaura Kamande was discovered by his father after he failed to be seen during the day. Officers found no visible injuries, and the body was taken to Kirwara Funeral Home pending autopsy.
