Man Killed, Woman Injured in Armed Robbery at M-Pesa Shop in Nakuru

A 25-year-old man was fatally shot and a woman injured during a robbery at an M-Pesa shop in Baraka area, Menengai, Nakuru County on Wednesday night.

According to police, a gang of three stormed the shop and assaulted the female attendant, injuring her face and left arm before robbing her of Sh40,000.

The man who was killed, identified as Enock Chepkwony, a herder from the Arap Chumo area, was shot shortly after the robbery as the suspects fled the scene.

Officers who responded to the incident said Chepkwony was shot in the back, with the bullet exiting through his cheek, indicating close-range use of a rifle. A 7.62mm spent cartridge was recovered at the scene.

The injured M-Pesa operator was taken to hospital for treatment while Chepkwony’s body was moved to the mortuary for a postmortem. Investigators have launched a probe into the murder and robbery, and are seeking to trace the weapon used to determine whether it has been linked to other crimes.

In a separate incident in Matsangoni, Kilifi County, a 70-year-old man was killed after being shot with an arrow. Police said Josephat Katana was attacked by a group riding a motorcycle and found with an arrow embedded in his ribs. Though he cried for help and was rushed to hospital by family members, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police say the motive for the attack remains unclear, as the suspects fled without taking any valuables. The body was taken to a local mortuary for autopsy and further investigations.
