The Ministry of Education has announced that capitation funds for schools will be disbursed before the start of the second term on April 27, 2026.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the move is aimed at ensuring smooth operations in schools across the country.

He noted that the ministry will prioritise the release of funds alongside the distribution of textbooks, particularly for Grade 10 learners.
“The supply of Grade 10 textbooks will ensure students have the necessary learning materials, while early release of capitation will help schools run without disruptions,” Bitok said.
The government is also planning to support the development of textbooks for technical and applied subjects to facilitate the rollout of Competency-Based Education (CBE) pathways.
At the same time, Bitok revealed that consultations are ongoing with the National Treasury and the Teachers Service Commission regarding the future of junior school teachers. This follows concerns raised after a court ruling questioned their current employment terms.

Additionally, the government is working with stakeholders and private sector players to streamline scholarship programmes, aiming to improve efficiency and ensure support reaches deserving beneficiaries.
