Mystery as Senior Police officer Found Dead in Parked Car

A senior police officer was discovered dead inside his car under unclear circumstances at Ikonge Market in Nyamira County.

Police said they were alerted by members of the public who noticed a vehicle that had been parked for a long time along the Nyamira–Kericho road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man unresponsive inside the locked vehicle.

They broke one of the windows to gain entry and found the body of a Chief Inspector lying across the front seats. No visible injuries were noted, though mucus was seen coming from his nose.

Preliminary findings identified the deceased as an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) based in Kericho County. Reports indicate he had left his home earlier that morning at around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 29.

His intended destination remains unknown, and he was alone in the vehicle. The body was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Ibaraa Mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death, while the car was towed to Ekerenyo Police Station for further examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as colleagues mourned him as a dedicated and kind officer.

Woman dies in Kirinyaga house fire

In a separate incident, a 35-year-old woman lost her life following a fire at her rented home in Mukinduri Shopping Centre, Kirinyaga County.

Police said the fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, March 30, 2026, and was reported at about 1:45 a.m. by a member of the public who tried to put out the flames engulfing the sitting room.

Officers from Mutitu Police Station responded and found the body of Penninah Wambui Karimi in the sitting room with burn injuries.

Authorities noted that a heavily burnt couch—believed to be where she had been seated—was among items destroyed in the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be established, though a matchbox was recovered at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.

Her body was moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem.

Herdsman found dead near Mwingi Game Reserve

Elsewhere, police in Kitui County are investigating the killing of a 44-year-old herdsman found dead near Mwingi Game Reserve.

The incident was reported at around 4:00 a.m. on March 29, 2026, by a local resident. The deceased, identified as Stephen Kyalo Kimwele, was discovered lying by the roadside near the reserve with a deep wound on his neck.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Tseikuru, together with police from Masyungwa Police Station, visited and documented the scene.

The body was later moved to Kyuso Sub-County Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

No suspects have been identified so far, and the motive behind the killing remains unknown as investigations continue.
