The government plans to set up designated resting areas for lorries along major highways and widen road sections at high-risk blackspots as part of efforts to reduce road accidents.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the ministry will use telematics to track truck drivers’ working hours and help prevent fatigue-related crashes.
New regulations will be presented to Parliament to formalise the establishment of parking bays for heavy vehicles.
“We have identified blackspots nationwide and are seeking funding to expand and improve dangerous road sections, including the Nithi Bridge, which will be advertised for works this financial year,” Chirchir said.
He also announced that vehicle inspection services will be opened to licensed private operators across the country to ensure all vehicles meet road safety standards.
The CS urged pedestrians, motorists, boda boda riders, and cyclists to remain vigilant on the roads.
