Kitui Senator Enoch K. Wambua has issued a strong warning to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, urging him to respect the Kamba community and Wiper Party leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka amid ongoing opposition coalition talks.
In a fiery Facebook post, Wambua cautioned against what he described as attempts to “micro-manage” the Kamba community and its political direction, referencing events around the 2022 General Election.
“The last time people tried to micro-manage this Kamba community and our Party Leader H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka was in 2022. For the record, that won’t happen again, at least not in our lifetime,” Wambua wrote.
The senator’s remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are engaged in discussions aimed at settling on a joint presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2027 General Election. According to Wambua, coalition principals are expected to finalise details by June 2026.
He questioned Matiang’i’s reported dissatisfaction with ongoing negotiations, suggesting that if the former CS is uncomfortable with the talks, he should step aside.
“If Dr. Matiang’i is unhappy with any talks at the level of coalition principals as we finalise details of who should be our presidential flag bearer by June 2026, then he should clear the way and leave,” Wambua stated.
In a pointed remark, Wambua further asked whether Matiang’i feared dialogue or whether he could be acting as a “government mole” within the opposition.
The senator maintained that respect for the Kamba community and for Kalonzo’s leadership remains non-negotiable.
“Respect to our Kamba Community is non-negotiable. Respect to our Party Leader H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is non-negotiable,” he concluded.
Wambua’s statement is likely to intensify debate within opposition ranks as leaders negotiate alliances and positioning ahead of the next general election.
