Detectives in Athi River East Sub-County, Machakos County, are investigating a tragic incident in which a 14-year-old Grade 9 student died after falling from a school building.

According to police reports, the pupil allegedly fell from the third floor of a classroom block through a stair grill. Officers who responded to the scene found that the student suffered severe head injuries, including a suspected skull fracture accompanied by heavy bleeding.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Embakasi processed and documented the area before the body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The student’s next of kin were informed and arrived at the school following the incident.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal fall. Panic was reported as parents rushed to the school upon receiving news of the tragedy.

In a separate incident within the same sub-county, police are also probing the death of a 30-year-old casual labourer whose body was discovered inside a quarry in the Ngelani area under unclear circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Bernard Mutiso, was reportedly last seen at around 4:30 a.m. before going missing. According to the quarry site manager, workers initially assumed he had gone to rest.

However, at about 6:00 a.m., the morning shift team found his body lying within the quarry site.

Police officers who visited the scene at Katani Location’s Ngelani Quarry established that the victim had sustained severe head injuries, with his skull badly crushed.

The body was moved to Machakos Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigators are considering both accidental death and possible foul play as they probe the incident.

Elsewhere in Buuri East Sub-County, Meru County, police are investigating yet another mysterious death after the body of a 23-year-old man was found hanging on a tree in Nkunga Village.

Officers said the body of Reuben Mugambi was discovered along a roadside, initially appearing to be a suicide.

However, upon closer examination, investigators observed multiple deep cut wounds on the right thigh, lower abdomen, and buttocks, raising suspicions of foul play.

Police now believe the victim may have been killed elsewhere before his body was staged to resemble a suicide scene in an attempt to conceal the true circumstances of his death.

The body was moved to Cool Breeze Funeral Home for preservation as investigations continue to establish the exact sequence of events and identify those responsible.
