Unveiled during a ceremony at JW Marriott on Wednesday, Kamau became the fourth person to claim the coveted prize and the first winner since 2018. Previous winners include Samuel Abisai, who bagged Sh221 million in April 2017; Daniel Rono, Geoffrey Keitany, and Florence Machogu, who shared Sh111 million a month later; Gordon Ogada, who won Sh230 million in February 2018; and Cosmas Korir, who took home Sh208 million in September 2018.

SportPesa officially confirmed Kamau’s win in a statement on August 4, 2025. In an audio recording shared by the company, CEO Ronald Karauri personally informed Kamau of his victory, telling him the entire sum would be deposited tax-free into his account following the removal of government levies on winnings.

Despite the life-changing news, Kamau remained calm, attributing his win to divine intervention. “Some things can only be attributed to God,” he said.

In keeping with tradition, Kamau’s first move was to travel to his home in Nakuru on a SportPesa-sponsored flight. SportPesa PR Manager Willis Ojwang’ used the occasion to reaffirm the legitimacy of the Mega Jackpot, declaring, “We manufacture real millionaires.”
