Tragedy in Kisumu as Four Brothers Drown in Quarry

Four brothers tragically lost their lives on Sunday evening after drowning while swimming in an open quarry in Kisumu.

The siblings, aged 15, 13, 10 and 8, drowned in an abandoned quarry located near Kudho Primary School in the Kanyakwar area of Kisumu Central Sub-County. The quarry reportedly has deep sections that are filled with water.

Kondele Location Chief Maurice Ajwang confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies of all four children were recovered from the quarry.

According to preliminary information, one of the boys is believed to have strayed into a deeper section of the quarry and started struggling in the water. His three brothers are said to have jumped in to try and save him, but they were also overcome by the depth and drowned.

Residents who arrived at the scene raised an alarm, triggering rescue efforts that eventually led to the retrieval of the bodies.

The remains were taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as police began investigations into the tragedy.
