The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has dismissed its Vice Chairperson, Wambui Nyutu, citing her continued engagement in partisan political activities, which the Commission says breaches her oath of office and legal obligations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, NCIC Chair Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia said the decision was reached unanimously during a Special Commission Meeting held on July 22, 2025. He stated that Nyutu’s actions had become “untenable” and conflicted with her constitutional and legal duties.

“The Commission unanimously resolved to remove Ms. Nyutu from her position as Vice Chairperson with immediate effect,” the statement said.

Nyutu had faced internal scrutiny since early 2025 over what the Commission described as repeated political involvement. The NCIC had convened three special sessions — on January 3, January 23, and February 6 — to address her conduct, which included politically charged statements and appearances.

Although she initially denied any wrongdoing and later apologized, pledging to avoid politics, the Commission says she failed to uphold that commitment.

“During the July 22 meeting, the Commission expressed grave concern that Ms. Nyutu continued to take part in partisan politics, including attending events linked to a political party,” said Rev. Kobia.

Her actions, the Commission emphasized, violated the impartiality expected of NCIC members.

Following her removal from the vice chair role, the Commission initiated formal proceedings for her complete removal as a Commissioner, invoking Section 23 of the NCIC Act (CAP 7N) and other legal provisions. The appointing authority will be formally notified.

Dr. Dorcas Kedogo has since been unanimously elected as the new Vice Chairperson, effective immediately.

The NCIC also distanced itself from any political remarks made by Nyutu, stating that her views were personal and did not represent the Commission.

Rev. Kobia concluded by reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to neutrality, professionalism, and integrity, reminding all members of their duty to remain non-partisan as per their oath of office.
