The victims, aged 13 and 9, died on Wednesday after the incident occurred while their father was away buying lunch with three of his other children. Police said the family had travelled from Nairobi earlier that morning.
The two girls were among 10 children swimming at the time. They were rushed to Gertrude’s Hospital in Mombasa but were pronounced dead on arrival. They were buried on Thursday at a local cemetery.
Family spokesperson Jamila Ibrahim accused the property owner and management of negligence, citing the absence of security personnel or a lifeguard to warn children about the pool’s depth. She called on the county government to inspect all swimming pools, warning that similar incidents were becoming increasingly common.

Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Noor said police have launched investigations and stressed that all pools should have lifeguards and clear safety warnings.
The tragedy has renewed calls for stricter enforcement of swimming pool safety regulations across the country.
