The MCAs are accused of awarding tenders to 40 companies believed to be operated by their relatives and close associates, raising concerns over conflict of interest.

In a letter to the County Secretary, the EACC requested access to original documents related to the tender awards and payments made to the implicated firms.

A separate letter sent to the Clerk of the County Assembly on Wednesday confirmed the commission is investigating possible cases of conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public funds.

The EACC has asked for additional documentation, including the MCAs’ pay slips, wealth declarations, and conflict of interest registers for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 financial years, to aid the probe.

The investigation is part of wider anti-corruption efforts targeting senior county officials. Recently, three former governors — Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu), Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu), and Daniel Waithaka (Nyandarua) — were convicted over corruption-related charges.

The EACC has also been actively conducting operations in other counties, including Trans Nzoia, Kiambu, Turkana, and Bomet, as part of its ongoing crackdown on graft in devolved units.
