Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has downplayed the significance of the newly formed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), reportedly linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stating it lacks political influence.

While speaking in Eldoret, Cherargei criticized the DCP for launching with a regional focus, claiming it fails to present a national agenda and poses no challenge to President William Ruto’s strong political foothold.
“DCP is like many other political outfits in Kenya—ethnic-based and centered around personalities. It has no ability to disrupt President Ruto’s political base,” said the senator.
He accused Gachagua and his allies of fueling ethnic tensions and misleading the public, asserting that President Ruto remains firmly supported both in Mt Kenya and nationally.
Cherargei further questioned the legality of DCP’s registration, alleging it does not meet the statutory requirement of having operational offices in at least 25 counties.
“Only UDA and ODM meet that threshold. We will push for the deregistration of all parties that fail to comply,” he stated.
He also dismissed recent calls for Ruto’s ouster, affirming that the President will complete his term and is on track for re-election.
“When they say ‘Ruto must go,’ our response is simple—he must go to State House. In fact, ‘Kumi bila break’ remains the plan,” he said, referencing Ruto’s intention to serve two full terms.
Cherargei criticized opposition figures, including those backing Gachagua, claiming they had failed to deliver during their previous time in government.
“Unless they’ve come from Jerusalem, they’re the same leaders who didn’t perform before. They bring nothing new to the table,” he remarked.
Highlighting President Ruto’s accomplishments, Cherargei pointed to ongoing affordable housing initiatives, infrastructure development, and subsidised fertiliser as evidence of meaningful progress.

“These are tangible changes. Farmers are benefiting, and development is visible across the country,” he noted.
He concluded by expressing confidence in Ruto’s re-election prospects, attributing the President’s popularity to his focus on transformative policies.
“Ruto is headed back to State House—and he’ll return even stronger,” Cherargei declared.
