Between January and March, the SGR moved 1.82 million tonnes of goods, a significant rise from 1.3 million tonnes transported during the same period in 2024.

March saw the highest cargo volumes at 636,724 tonnes, followed by January with 634,034 tonnes, and February with 549,818 tonnes, the KRC report noted.

Despite a slight dip in passenger numbers—529,591 people compared to 531,673 in Q1 2024—revenue from passenger services rose sharply. Earnings increased to 3.82 billion Kenyan shillings (approximately 29.5 million U.S. dollars), up from 25 million dollars in the same quarter last year.

In U.S. dollar terms, passenger service revenue climbed to 7.24 million dollars, compared to 4.39 million dollars in the first quarter of 2024.
