KRA Commissioner General, Humphrey Wattanga, highlighted the complexity of the PAYE system, which hampers compliance and creates an administrative burden for small businesses.
“Our goal is to simplify this process and make it more user-friendly for all employers, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),” Wattanga stated.
Once the simplification is complete, the new PAYE return system will offer several filing options, including an Excel-based return, a mobile application, a web-based platform, and API integration, providing more accessibility and convenience for businesses.
During a meeting with the Nyandarua Business Community in Nyahururu Town, KRA officials reassured entrepreneurs of their ongoing support in streamlining tax processes to improve business efficiency.
KRA Board Chairman Nderitu Muriithi encouraged businesses to provide feedback to help improve the Authority’s services and operational efficiency.
“We are engaging stakeholders to better understand their challenges and find solutions. Our open-door policy ensures taxpayers are heard and supported in meeting compliance requirements,” he said.
James Mureu, Chairman of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA) Board, praised KRA for prioritizing MSMEs in its outreach efforts.
He noted that the recent creation of a department dedicated to addressing MSME concerns marked significant progress in addressing historical tax challenges.
“We are moving in the right direction. It’s encouraging to see KRA collaborating with MSMEs, addressing their concerns, and taking steps to foster a favorable business environment,” said Mureu.
He also urged KRA to balance stakeholder engagement with the swift implementation of solutions.
KRA’s ongoing national stakeholder engagement efforts are part of a larger strategy to promote compliance, build trust with the business community, and enhance service delivery.
