ODM leader Oburu Oginga has threatened to take legal action against Rigathi Gachagua over allegations that he was “bought” to hand over the party.
Speaking on Monday during a Nairobi ODM youth forum, Oburu reassured supporters that the party would not be absorbed into United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the current broad-based political arrangement. He insisted ODM would protect its strongholds and work to grow its support base ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We cannot be swallowed. If anyone tries, it will not work,” he said.
National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed emphasized that the broad-based setup is not a political party, maintaining that ODM remains the official platform through which support must be channelled.
Oburu also revealed plans for nationwide engagement tours across 25 counties as the party seeks to strengthen its presence and possibly increase its seats.
ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga said the party intends to field candidates in all elective positions in 2027, while Makadara MP George Aladwa maintained that Nairobi seats would remain under ODM.
On the other hand, UDA Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo said the ruling party is unfazed, regardless of whether zoning arrangements are adopted.
ODM leaders also criticised UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, with deputy party leader Simba Arati urging him to tone down his remarks.

Mining CS Hassan Joho reaffirmed his support for ODM, while deputy party leader Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir stressed that no individual is bigger than the party.
Oburu dismissed the bribery claims as baseless, vowing to challenge them in court and defend his integrity.
