A heavy cloud of grief filled the Africa Gospel Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday as Naiyanoi Ntutu delivered an emotional tribute to her late husband, Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, remembering him as her first love and lifelong companion.
Speaking before mourners, Ntutu reflected on a relationship that began in their youth and blossomed into a marriage rooted in friendship, commitment, and family. She described him as the man who stood by her during their formative years, turning life’s uncertainties into moments of beauty and hope.

Calling him “the husband of my youth,” she said their journey together was marked by shared growth and unwavering support. In their early days of building a life, she noted, he became her source of strength and reassurance.
She portrayed Ngeno as a loving partner whose affection brightened everyday life, saying his presence made even ordinary moments feel special. Her words moved sections of the congregation to tears.
Ntutu also paid tribute to his devotion as a father to their two children, Taparon and Chesang. She described him as proud and hands-on, someone who cherished every milestone in their lives and regarded them as his greatest achievement. To their children, she said, he remains a hero, while to her he was a kind and deeply committed father.
While political colleagues often celebrated Ngeno’s bold leadership, Ntutu revealed a more intimate portrait — that of a gentle family man whose proudest accomplishments were within his home.

Though overwhelmed by loss, she affirmed that death could not erase the love, memories, and family they built together, insisting he would forever remain part of her life.
Ngeno died on February 28 in a helicopter crash at Chepkieb in Nandi County alongside six others after attending an event in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County. He is scheduled to be buried on Friday at his Dikir home.
