Woman in Machakos Court Gives Birth After Being Found Innocent in Son’s Murder Case

A pregnant woman from Machakos delivered her baby at the Kithimani Law Court in Machakos County shortly after being acquitted of the murder of her 19-month-old son.

Virginia Mbinyi Maingi stood trial on April 16, 2024, in connection with the death of her son. However, Principal Magistrate Paul Matanda ruled in her favor, absolving her of the alleged crime.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, Virginia went into labor, causing a stir of concern and urgency within the courtroom. Court officials promptly sought assistance from nurses at Kithimani dispensary, who successfully facilitated the birth of Virginia’s baby girl.

Following the delivery and once her condition stabilized, Virginia and her newborn were transported to her rural residence in a police vehicle from Matuu station.

Virginia Mbinyi’s Arrest
Virginia was apprehended on March 25, 2024, and subsequently charged with murder on March 27, 2024.

Initially held at Matuu police station pending further investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Virginia was later cleared after medical examinations concluded that her baby had died from starvation.
