NTSA Orders Motor Dealers to Register All Vehicles by December 16

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has instructed motor vehicle dealers to ensure all their vehicles are registered by December 16, 2024.

The NTSA Director General explained that this directive came after the discovery that many motor dealers were keeping unregistered vehicles on their premises.

“Following the completion of the initiative, the Authority has found that several motor vehicle dealers are holding unregistered vehicles in their showrooms and yards, which violates the Traffic Act, Cap 403,” said the Director General.

As a result, the NTSA has mandated that all pending vehicle registration applications must be completed by December 16, 2024.

Dealers who do not comply with this directive will face consequences, including having their vehicles impounded.

“The law enforcement agencies have been instructed to seize vehicles without registration plates, those misusing Kenya Dealer Plates (KD), and take legal action against the dealers and owners involved,” the Director General added.

This directive follows a joint revalidation effort involving several agencies: NTSA, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS), and security agencies.

The NTSA is responsible for licensing and regulating motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers, and the goal of this initiative is to ensure dealers comply with the relevant laws and eliminate those operating illegally.
