Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has issued an apology on behalf of the Kenya Kwanza administration to residents of the Mt Kenya region over the 2024 impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during the commissioning of a water project in Mwea, Waiguru said she was sorry for the political tensions that followed the removal, but clarified that governors were not directly involved in the impeachment process, which was handled by Members of Parliament.

She emphasized that county leaders had no role in the proceedings and therefore could not be held responsible for how the decision was reached.
The Kirinyaga governor also called on Mt Kenya residents to move past political divisions and unite behind President William Ruto in order to fast-track development projects across the region.
