The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has summoned two nominated MCAs—Ann Thumbi from Nyeri and Joy Muthoni Mwangi from Nairobi—over their alleged involvement with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s new political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

In a letter dated Friday, UDA Disciplinary Committee Chair Charles Njenga accused the duo of defying party rules by participating in DCP’s political activities.
He claimed their actions amounted to inciting UDA members to defect and ordered them to appear before the party’s disciplinary panel on June 20.
Njenga warned that the two could face suspension, expulsion, or financial penalties if found guilty of breaching the Political Parties Act and the UDA constitution.
“The committee has received credible information and evidence regarding your conduct, widely shared on social and mainstream media, suggesting you violated party discipline,” the letter stated.
The MCAs are accused of attending a DCP rally on May 15, wearing party-branded clothing, and urging locals to support the new party. Thumbi reportedly took part in another DCP event on May 24.
Muthoni also allegedly posted a pro-DCP message on her Facebook page, encouraging supporters to leave UDA.
“These actions demonstrate clear support for a rival party and show complete disregard for the UDA constitution and code of conduct,” the committee noted.
Both MCAs have been instructed to appear in person—or with legal representation—at Hustler Plaza for the hearing. The final decision, once made, will be forwarded to the party’s National Executive Committee for further action.
