In a separate operation, a joint effort by the National Police Service and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) led to the arrest of two suspects in the Namba area of Suna East Sub-County, Migori County, for possession of wildlife trophies.
Authorities intercepted a blue Bajaj motorcycle carrying six elephant tusks weighing 18.8 kilograms and estimated to be worth Sh1.8 million.
A 35-year-old woman transporting the sack of tusks and a 58-year-old man operating the motorcycle were taken into custody and are awaiting arraignment.
The NPS, in partnership with KWS, reaffirmed its dedication to combating wildlife trafficking and protecting endangered species.
The public has been urged to report any suspicious activity related to wildlife crimes.
