The military band, dressed in full ceremonial attire, stood in formation beside the runway, rehearsing slow, dignified tunes to accompany the reception. Their precision and composure underscored the magnitude of the moment as the nation prepares to receive one of its most revered leaders.
Security around JKIA has been heightened, with multiple police and military checkpoints erected along key access routes to the airport. Members of the public have been barred from the main entrance to prevent congestion, while crowds gathering outside the airport’s perimeter fence are being closely monitored by security personnel.
Hundreds of citizens have already begun assembling near the fence, hoping to catch a glimpse of the convoy that will escort Raila’s remains.
Inside the VIP terminal, final touches are being made for the arrival ceremony. The area has been cleared and a red carpet rolled out in readiness for the official reception.
Several senior government officials and political leaders have arrived at JKIA ahead of the plane’s scheduled landing at 9:30 a.m.
Security teams have coordinated every movement to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and with the utmost decorum.

President William Ruto and Mama Ida Odinga are expected to lead the reception once the Kenya Airways flight lands. The body will be received with full military honours before being placed on the gun carriage and transported to Lee Funeral Home under tight security.
Military officers will remain on standby at JKIA throughout the morning as the country witnesses one of the most solemn and historic homecomings in Kenya’s history.
