Mike Sonko has stepped in to support the family of the late Eugene Malivi Mutuku, a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who died after allegedly being pushed from a moving bus along Thika Road.
According to a statement shared on his Facebook page, the former Nairobi governor said his team facilitated the transportation of Eugene’s body from the mortuary, cleared all outstanding mortuary bills, and accompanied the bereaved family to Kawethei Village in Ndithini Ward, Kivaa Ward, Masinga Sub-County, where the student was laid to rest.
Sonko said the assistance was provided following a request from Eugene’s family.
Describing the student’s death as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” Sonko condemned the growing cases of passengers allegedly being thrown from moving public service vehicles by rogue crew members.
“As a former matatu owner and a makanga, I am deeply disturbed by the increasing incidents where passengers lose their lives after being pushed from moving vehicles,” Sonko said.

He maintained that no Kenyan should die in such a cruel and senseless manner while using public transport, adding that those responsible for Eugene’s death must be brought to justice.
“Enough is enough. I strongly condemn this act and call for swift justice. Those responsible must be arrested and held accountable,” he stated.
Sonko also extended his condolences to Eugene’s family, praying that they find strength during the difficult period and that the late student’s soul rests in eternal peace.

Eugene’s death has sparked public outrage, with many Kenyans calling for stricter action against rogue matatu operators and crew members accused of endangering passengers’ lives.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
