Safaricom has provided clarification regarding the technical issue affecting its customers’ ability to send M-Pesa transactions.
“We have observed that some of our customers are not receiving messages from Safaricom and/or M-PESA. This issue primarily affects customers using Android phones with third-party SMS applications,” Safaricom stated.
In a statement released on Friday, Safaricom outlined the solution for affected customers. They advised users to access their SMS application and review the Spam & Blocked folder.
“To address this problem, affected customers should locate a Safaricom and M-PESA message within the folder and unblock it. Subsequent messages will then be directed to the main inbox,” Safaricom explained.
Furthermore, Safaricom recommended that Android smartphone users consider selecting the default SMS application, which typically lacks a spam folder.
In an earlier announcement, Safaricom had informed customers that, effective February 5, 2024, they would no longer be able to send money from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile accounts.
While emphasizing this change, Safaricom assured registered customers that they would retain the ability to send and receive money seamlessly, even when transacting with different mobile money providers.
“This decision, effective February 5, 2024, discontinues the ability to send money from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile money customers,” Safaricom’s statement highlighted.
The move is part of Safaricom’s strategic efforts to bolster security measures and regulate transactions within the mobile money ecosystem.
