Ruto To Envoys: Go Sell Kenya to the World

President William Ruto has called on Kenyan ambassadors and envoys to intensify efforts in advancing the country’s economic and strategic interests abroad, pointing to improved economic stability and rising investor confidence as a strong foundation for global engagement.

Speaking at the opening of the 19th Ambassadors’ Conference in Nairobi, Ruto said Kenya is in a stronger position despite an increasingly uncertain global landscape marked by geopolitical tensions and weakened multilateral systems.

He encouraged diplomats to leverage the country’s recent economic progress to attract meaningful partnerships and position Kenya more competitively on the international stage.

The President attributed the country’s economic gains to deliberate policy decisions made over the past three years, noting improvements in stability, fiscal discipline, and institutional strength.

He highlighted that Kenya had avoided a potential debt default experienced by some African nations, crediting reforms such as controlled spending and the removal of unsustainable subsidies.

Ruto said the economy continues to grow steadily, with GDP estimated at $136 billion and annual growth at about five per cent. Inflation, he added, has dropped significantly, while the Kenyan shilling has stabilised against the dollar. He also cited an improved sovereign credit rating as a sign of growing global investor confidence.

On investment, the President noted that foreign direct investment rose by 15 per cent in 2025, surpassing $2 billion for the first time. He added that the Kenya International Investment Conference secured commitments worth $2.9 billion across key sectors, expected to create over 63,000 jobs.

Ruto pointed out that more than 300 multinational companies are currently operating in Kenya, reflecting confidence in the country’s economic direction.

He also highlighted progress in key sectors, including healthcare, housing, education, and employment. Over 30 million Kenyans have registered under the Social Health Authority, while 240,000 housing units are under construction, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs.

In education, the government has recruited 100,000 teachers and built over 23,000 classrooms, alongside ongoing reforms in university funding and curriculum development.

Additionally, he said targeted job creation programmes have benefited over 1.8 million Kenyans, including overseas employment opportunities, with more than 540,000 citizens securing jobs abroad and boosting diaspora remittances beyond $5 billion in 2025.

Looking ahead, Ruto outlined plans to expand infrastructure, energy, and water investments, including increasing power generation to 10,000 megawatts, building more roads, and constructing dams to support agriculture and water security.

He noted that the projects will require about KSh5 trillion in funding, supported by the newly established National Infrastructure Fund.

On foreign policy, the President said Kenya will maintain a balanced and practical approach while supporting multilateral cooperation and advocating reforms in global institutions.

He also announced that Kenya will host key international events later this year, including the Africa-France Summit and the Our Ocean Conference, urging diplomats to mobilize participation and elevate Kenya’s global profile.

Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s role in promoting peace and stability regionally and globally, including ongoing missions in Haiti and across Africa, while strengthening regional integration and trade.
