Ruto Meets AIPCA Bishops to Prep Talks

Ruto met with bishops from the African Independent Pentecostal Church Africa (AIPCA) on Saturday as part of his ongoing efforts to prepare for discussions.

This follows a similar meeting he held with Catholic Church leaders on Friday. The gathering, led by Archbishop Samson Muthuri, took place at State House and was attended by 96 bishops from different regions.

Ruto is actively seeking support from religious leaders as he gears up for multi-sectoral talks aimed at addressing contentious issues in the recently withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024.

He stated that the bishops have committed to participating in these discussions.

Additionally, Ruto highlighted his administration’s initiatives to generate job opportunities and income for youth, such as the Affordable Housing Programme, digital jobs, labor migration, and industrialization through county aggregation, industrial parks, and special economic zones.

Following widespread public outcry and protests, Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill, proposing that talks on its contents and related issues be conducted within the next 14 days.

He emphasized the importance of addressing concerns around austerity measures and strengthening the fight against corruption.

“We must now collectively look ahead, following the withdrawal of the Finance bill, and engage in dialogue on managing our nation’s affairs, including our debt and budget deficit,” he stated.
