President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have contributed Sh3 million to Gor Mahia FC and Uganda’s Kitara FC.

While speaking at the newly inaugurated Jaramogi Odinga Stadium in Siaya on Thursday, Ruto shared that the donation was made at the request of Governor James Orengo, who is the host of the event.
“Baba has contributed one million shillings, and I have contributed two million shillings, so these two teams can share the amount because they have played very well,” he said.
Ruto also highlighted the importance of the new stadium in promoting collaboration and integration among African nations.
“We are expanding beyond our borders to support multinational sports competitions, fostering cross-border unity, talent exchange, and regional integration,” Ruto stated.
Additionally, the President announced that the government would take over the remaining construction work for the stadium.
“The remaining construction work, including the canopy, will be completed by the national government,” he confirmed. Once finished, the stadium will have a capacity to hold 20,000 spectators.
This donation follows Ruto’s previous pledge to build a Sh100 million fish landing site in Siaya County, a project he believes will boost the local fishing economy.
“As part of advancing our culture and traditions, we will establish a fish landing site at a cost of Sh100 million to support the local fishing community,” he said. “As we celebrate our culture, we also recognize that it is evolving.”
Ruto and Raila were joined by Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni at the event.
